making history

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution recognizing some women’s right to vote. Through public art, we will help commemorate the centennial, honor the unfinished legacy of the women’s suffrage movement, and celebrate historic women who forged the path and lit the way for us all.

For this project, we have chosen 10 unearthed histories of civically engaged women from the Lighting the Way project. Local middle school, high school, and college students tell the stories of these women through 10 inspiring videos.

You and the rest of the community will decide which of these remarkable women will be the subjects of public art unveiled at the end of the summer.

Watch the video profiles and select your top three choices.
The voting period is open May 1 – May 31.
